DANCEwithME Studio was created in 2006 in Chicago, IL as a part of the worldwide DANCEwithME Project, which focuses exclusively on Social dancing. The first lesson taught by DANCEwithME Studio was at one of the world's premier academic and research institutions, and intellectual destinations - the University of Chicago. where an essential part of the syllabus taught today was developed. The DANCEwithME Project had the support of institutions like San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Academy of the Arts, and some of the best live bands today like The Fat Babies (Swing, Charleston), Rhythm Rockets (Jive), Tito Puente Jr, Latin Expressions (Salsa, Mambo) and many of the best dance studios, dance teachers and many of the best hardcore social dancers preserving the traditions and developing the new social dance styles.
In 2017 was created the London branch currently operating in Richmond. The studio has a rather academic approach to teaching, tailored for people seeking the point behind an action and understanding the value and importance of knowledge. The studio has a rather unique in-house developed approach to its lessons and the instructors are not the typical ones that you will find in most dance studios today. The goal is to provide a class full of substance and maximum efficiency. The emphasis is on the knowledge and developing skills infused with your personal style. Typically the classes are small (less than 15 people) so the instructors can work with everyone individually.
Our Philosophy
We believe that the true and best joy is the one you create yourself, a caring piece of your soul, and be able to share it with someone.
We also believe that:
- you should develop your individual style that expresses your unique individuality instead of being another cliche on the dance-floor.
- the dance should be danced not executed.
- communication is a vital and essential part of the partner dance, and it is a joint effort.
- It's all about joy and happiness so, no negative energy of any kind should be present on the social dance-floor.
- K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid)
- the Dance-floor Etiquette should always be respected.
- be social - after all, it's a Social dance, isn't it?
- Dancing with someone is more like having a 3min. romance.
We also believe that you shouldn't be learning how to dance for years but rather dance in those years.
